Liverpool are said to be interested in the Nigeria international winger Moses Simon. The 22-year-old, currently playing in Belgium for Gent, has one more year on his contract and is said to be valued at about £10million. The Echo is reporting that a bid from Liverpool is forthcoming, and that it’s Simon, not Nabil Fekir, who could be the club’s second signing of the summer.

Klopp is clearly keen to bring in some effective back-up for Salah and Mané in the attack for next season, with several players, including Fekir and Malcom, being linked in this transfer window. Simon would fit the bill for the type of player both Klopp and the transfer committee are interested in: he’s a young, pacy winger, capable of playing on either side of the pitch, who has scored goals and created assists for his team. He’s also an inexpensive, but highly rated, international player whom the Liverpool scouts have been paying close attention to for some time now.

With his relatively low price tag, this may not be an either/or situation with Fekir, Klopp’s main target. Instead, we could see both players arriving at Anfield this season as the boss attempts to beef up his attacking depth.

Klopp won’t have the World Cup to worry about when it comes to Simon either. The player will unfortunately miss out on the tournament due to a hip injury.

With Salah, Mané, Matip, and soon Naby Keïta joining, Liverpool is becoming the destination for top rated African talent, which could only be a good thing going forward. With the African Cup of Nations tournament finally moved to the summer instead of January, African players have become even more attractive to European clubs.

If true, we’d expect to see this transfer go through in the next couple of days.
