In the world of transfer rumours there are a few reasons information tends to leak out. One of the more common ones is when a selling club drops the name of supposedly interested buyers in order to try to create a sense of urgency and drive up bidding.
And today, Germany’s Bild are reporting that France’s L’Equipe are reporting that Bayern Munich are interested in signing Nabil Fekir and have been in contact with Lyon about the possibility of formally moving for the 24-year-old French star this summer.
This comes shortly after talk of a €60M Liverpool bid for the player, a bid Lyon were said to not be willing to accept, with the French club wanting to either drag things out until after the World Cup or to at the very least get Liverpool to pay more to get it done now.
Given Bayern Munich would have to set a new record transfer fee to sign Fekir and that the player doesn’t seem to fill an urgent need for them—they need a pure winger far more than the more centrally-suited Fekir—a bid in excess of €60M for him seems unlikely.
So, why would Bild be saying that L’Equipe are saying that Bayern Munich might pay more than the €60M Liverpool offered to sign Fekir? Well, it probably has something to do with creating a sense of urgency and getting a little more out of Liverpool.
Or it means Bayern are about to set a new transfer record for a player who on paper doesn’t look like he fills a top priority. But really it’s probably the Lyon leaking Bayern’s name to the French press to create a sense of urgency stuff.
