Roma Are Reportedly Shopping For Alisson Replacements

Roma have insisted their goalkeeper, and long-rumoured Liverpool target, isn’t going anywhere this summer but also like maybe he is.

The rumours surrounding AS Roma’s goalkeeper Alisson and Liverpool continue to swirl. Jürgen Klopp was always going to be looking for a goalkeeper this summer to replace Simon Mignolet but after the error-laden performance from Loris Karius in the Champions League final, many view that search and a subsequent replacement of the young German shot stopper as vital to Liverpool’s continued success.

Alisson has been a rumoured target of Liverpool’s for a while now but so far no concrete connections are reported. There are no indications that the player has voiced a desire to leave Italy and Roma have insisted that they aren’t likely to part with their Brazilian keeper this summer. Still, these rumours must see the light of day or what else are we going to do until the World Cup begins?

Both Real Madrid and Chelsea have apparently been keeping an eye on Alisson, too. Thibaut Courtois is expected to move on from the London Blues this summer, perhaps not content to spend next season in the Europa League playing for another temporary manager. And with Zinedine Zidane leaving the Bernebéu, the next Madrid manager may be looking to replace Keylor Navas in goal with a shiny new Alisson.

But while Roma keep insisting that Alisson will be staying in Rome next season, the new bits coming out of Italy are that sporting director Monchi has been putting together a short list of replacements if the Italian club are faced with an offer they can’t refuse for their in-demand number one. And that offer would have to be somewhere in the vicinity of €70M.

It’s an eye-watering number for a goalkeeper but the market is the market. There’s a club out there that may be willing to pay €70M for Alisson’s signature and that club could end up being Liverpool but it’s also being reported that the Reds told Alisson’s agent not to count on them making a big for his client this summer.

So, unless Karius’ no good, very bad day in Kiev really, really did make Klopp second guess everything he’s ever thought about his preferred number one, I would only expect a better version of Mignolet to be brought in this summer, for a fee much lower than what Roma want for Alisson.
