Fresh off the back of Dominic Solanke’s thunderbolt of a strike, seeing Dom finally get off the mark on the last day of the season, the former Chelsea youth academy product now seems to be a wanted man.
At least, that’s the story according to the Scottish publication The Daily Record. According to the report, Steven Gerrard, now managing Rangers, would like to bolster his strike force, turning toward the youthful Solanke and the veteran Jermain Defoe.
The report indicates further that “third party talks” have already taken place over Solanke. Mate, can’t you just text Jürgen with a few choice emojis?
From Liverpool’s perspective, this might be a good move, either as a loan or a transfer with a buy-back clause, depending on our summer transfer business. Solanke looked good in his limited appearances in Red this season, but he clearly needs more playing time at a senior level to continue his development.
Although it would be difficult to bring in anyone to supplant any of the front three, it’s not difficult to imagine bringing in another attacking player who would bump Dom—who only managed 722 minutes in all four competitions—further down the pecking order.
There’s definitely a player in there, and if our pal Stevie can develop him over the next year, this might be a move that is mutually beneficial for all involved.
