Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Eye Bayern Munich Veteran

Could Klopp be interested in the services of Arturo Vidal?

Gonna say that this one doesn’t seem likely. Gossip out of Germany is that Liverpool are interested in Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, with Klopp looking to make him his first acquisition of the summer. The theory seems to be that since Bayern have such a stacked midfield, particularly with Leon Goretzka, that the Chilean will be looking for a new home come July. Factor in that Emre Can may have played his last game for Liverpool and tada - you have a transfer rumour.

Vidal, who has played most of Bayern Munich’s Champions League games this season, recently had knee surgery and will sit out the rest of the season. Chile didn’t make the World Cup, so he’ll have the summer to rehabilitate from the keyhole surgery, but it was a tough blow for the player.

That, coupled with the fact that he will be 31-years-old in May, makes this rumour a bit difficult to take seriously. Another potential setback would be Vidal’s wage demands, which would certainly exceed anything Liverpool would be willing to shell out for the player. It would be an awful lot of money for a small return, with Liverpool likely to only get one or two good seasons out of him. Klopp has shown that he is committed to thinking long term in his recruitment strategy.

The rumour mentions both Chelsea and Manchester United as being other potential suitors for the player. While I am on record stating that Liverpool could use a good mohawk, either one of those other teams is welcome to him.
