A €32M release clause has some of Europe’s biggest sides eyeing up a summer move for Hoffenheim’s 24-year-old German international Karem Demirbay according to reports out of Germany this week that have Liverpool as one of the talented young midfielder’s many suitors.
According to Sport Bild, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, and Atletico Madrid have all scouted Demirbay heavily this season and the midfielder could now be facing a touch choice with some of the top clubs from Europe’s four biggest leagues in for him. And also Everton.
When the rumoured interest of so many clubs was put to him, Demirbay admitted a move this summer “would not be uninteresting” but said it was up to his agent to sort it out, something that could be made easier by what is a quite low release clause in the current market.
For their part, Sport Bild consider Dortmund favourites to sign him if they seek to strengthen midfield this summer, and given the player grew up close to the club that doesn’t seem a stretch. Liverpool, though, could have more need for Demirbay—and they have Jürgen Klopp.
The versatile midfield player would likely slot in to one of the shuttling roles in a three-man system, and if Emre Can signs a contract with Juventus as most still expect him to eventually do, Demirbay would seem well suited to taking over Can’s spot in the squad.
Though he is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, Demirbay has hade 23 total appearances this season for Hoffenheim, scoring twice and adding five assists.
