Transfer rumor connoisseurs might be surprised that there is a winger remaining in Europe that has not yet been linked to Liverpool. Well, step right on up, Leon Bailey, you’re the next contestant on “Which Winger Will Liverpool Sign Next?”
The 20-year-old Jamaican has been making a name for himself with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 9 goals and adding 5 assists in 20 Bundesliga appearances for the German side, a goal or assist every 102 minutes of league action. Not bad.
In an interview with German publication Bild, Bailey hinted at a move to a “big club” (unlucky, Leverkusen), so naturally the rumor mongers took this to be “a move to a big English club.”
“Leverkusen is perfect for me,” Bailey told Bild. ”I want to develop and then I can take the next step.
“When I move to a big club, the people there will want to know me.
”I want to make a name for myself at the highest level.”
Right. So obviously Liverpool, then? Or Manchester United. Or Arsenal. You know, pick the usual names out of a hat and hit “publish.”
In addition to helping Bayer Leverkusen fight in a razor-thin Champions League battle (currently in 4th, but 2nd-6th are separated by 3 points), Bailey has also helped fire Leverkusen into a DFB-Pokal semifinal.
“If we go to the cup final, we’ll win it, I promise,” Bailey said, making his biggest claim of all, “That would be the end of Neverkusen.”
So. If Bailey to Liverpool is actually a thing, we know we’ll be getting a player with a good sense of humor.
The only thing that stands in Neverkusen’s path to a cup final is a Bayern Munich sized road block. Good luck.
