We’ve had a full two-week breather from the manic energy (for some clubs, at least) of the transfer window, so it makes sense to start thinking about what might happen in the summer now. We’d talked about Thomas Lemar back when the transfer window was open and, when that seemed to hit a dead end, several other names of attacking midfielders were tossed out. Christian Pulisic was, is, and will continue to be one of them.
Now, if the Daily Mail is to be believed, the race to sign America’s brightest new talent is heating up and Chelsea are in the lead. Chelsea are apparently looking to take advantage of Michy Batshuayi, the Blues striker currently making waves while on loan at Borussia Dortmund. If Dortmund want to keep the Belgian international on permanently, Chelsea will reportedly be willing to negotiate a swap for Pulisic.
Of course, it’s still really early days. It remains to be seen if the rest of Batshuayi’s season continues to be as electric as its start, and if Chelsea make their interest in the 19-year-old official.
From the Reds’ perspective, while Pulisic has already built a relationship with Jürgen Klopp and expressed his eagerness to play in England, his contract with Dortmund extends through 2020 and the German club don’t seem particularly eager to part ways with the player just yet.
Pulisic would undoubtedly be an interesting (and fast!) addition to the team, should something happen. But it’s February. We’re months away from a deal, if any, being worked out for Pulisic. For now, there’s nothing to do but watch the rumours fly.
