Aaron Ramsey to Liverpool is Reportedly Off Again

The story will almost certainly change a few more times, but for now at least Ramsey to Liverpool isn’t a thing.

Aaron Ramsey isn’t joining Liverpool. Just like that, the deal’s off. Or at least that’s what Sky are peddling mere hours after suggesting it could be—or, perhaps, just should be—a thing. And at least until tomorrow, when it will probably be back on all over again.

Liverpool have been consistently linked with Ramsey since it became clear the 28-year-old Arsenal midfielder and Welsh international wouldn’t be signing a new contract with Arsenal, meaning he will be able to depart the club on a free in the summer of 2019.

He’s got the talent, he would arguably fill a role similar to the one the club were trying to sign Nabil Fekir for last summer, and even if players moving on a free tend to earn higher wages he would still arrive as a relative bargain if he moved to Anfield next year.

On the flip side, of course, he’s got a well documented—and what one imagines would have to be a quite terrifying for any club thinking of throwing cash in his direction—injury record, and Xherdan Shaqiri has looked outstanding in the should-have-been-Fekir’s role.

With everything weighed up, it’s been hard not to wonder if the frequent Liverpool links are nothing more than his agent, hard at work making him look like a more appealing target for some other club. Still, on talent alone, Ramsey is a very, very good player.

Who, today at least, isn’t signing for Liverpool as Liverpool aren’t interested in signing him. And whatever does happen with this story next, though, it’s probably worth remembering Sky, for all their name recognition, are not a reliable source for transfer news.
