Having been returned from SC Freiburg of the Bundesliga this week following a largely unsuccessful loan spell at the club, Liverpool youngster Ryan Kent is expected to quickly find a new home for the second half of the season with the 21-year-old in need of playing time as he looks to push his game to the next level.
And the expectation amongst those who keep a close eye on Derby County is that Kent will end up with them, as the Championship club were serious contenders for the player last summer and only lost out on him when the top flight German side showed interest. The club remain, according to the Derby Telegraph, interested.
If true, their role as runners-up in the race for his services, their continuing interest in bringing him to the club, and Liverpool’s desire to find a new home for Kent quickly so that he can start playing as soon as possible all does seem to line up such that even if it’s just putting two and two together, it’s a move that seems likely.
Their pursuit could be complicated by the fact that Sheffield United and Bristol have also been linked with a loan move for Kent this month, but Derby appear current favourites and would seek to sign Kent—who made 47 total appearances for Barnsley in the Championship last year—in short order.
If that move doesn’t go through, though, it seems a near certainty Kent will end up in the Championship on loan before the month is out following his disappointing six-appearance loan spell with Freiburg.
