A deal on the verge of being done for the past 24 hours is now official, and Liverpool’s 20-year-old midfielder Ovie Ejaria is now a Sunderland player for the remainder of the current season as he joins the Championship side on loan.
Ejaria is heading to the club in the thick of a relegation dogfight, with six teams at the tail end of the table and within three points of each other, all trying to avoid finishing in the bottom three and dropping down to League One.
Ejaria showed great promise in the first half of last season, and many Liverpool fans expected he would make the breakthrough and become a first team regular seeing action as a starter in the cups and off the bench in the league.
Injury, though, got in the way of that and he spent the first half of the current season working back to full fitness with the U23s. Now he needs game time in a competitive environment, and Sunderland promise just that for Ejaria.
