Rumour Mongering: Reds In For Roma Keeper Alisson

Reports out of Italy indicate that Liverpool have joined the chase for Brazilian international goalkeeper.

Could selling one Brazilian international help Liverpool land another? That’s the latest rumor out of Italy, courtesy of the publication Gazzetta. According to the report, Liverpool are looking to convince Brazilian shot-stopper Alisson Ramses Becker, AKA Alisson (you do you, Brazilian footballers), currently plying his trade with AS Roma in Serie A.

However, there are complications that make this move at the very least difficult, if not completely unfeasible. Much like Liverpool, Roma are in a scrap for Champions League qualification, and have also qualified for the Round of 16, set to kick-off in February. Additionally, he is currently under contract until 2021, meaning it would take a substantial bid to make Roma consider any offer.

So far this season, Alisson has helped Roma to clean sheets in half of his outings—12 in 24 appearances. For Liverpool fans who are reading this, a “clean sheet” is when you do not concede goals.

Also according to this report, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are said to also be interested in the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately (because let’s face it, we really could do with a new goalkeeper), this seems like the sort of lazy, making-shit-up, rumor mongering that is far too common during the transfer windows. Hey! Here’s a keeper, and Liverpool could do with a keeper, so here. Also, let’s toss out another couple of usual big-name suspects for clicks. Ta-da!

And then I’ve gone on and reported on the reporting, because that’s how it goes. But hey, at least it wasn’t another Coutinho story, right?
