Exactly one week to go in the transfer market, and Liverpool fans have begun to fret—and with good reason—that Jurgen Klopp & Co. will not bring in another attacking player to help fill in the Philippe Coutinho shaped hole in the squad. The worries became all the more worrying after the weekend result (or lack thereof) against bottom-dwellers Swansea City.
The most reliable journalists have gone completely silent on the matter of an incoming transfer. Considering how the winter deal for Virgil van Dijk was wrapped up quietly, and without fuss, this is either a sign that Liverpool are definitely going to sign someone, or definitely not.
The journalists with the best links to Liverpool have remained silent. This is not their story. Instead, Duncan Castles of Yahoo Sport UK, is reporting that the Reds have a personal agreement to bring in Thomas Lemar, but have thus far refused to meet Monaco’s €100 million transfer fee demand.
If Lemar is actually committed to Liverpool, transfer fee agreement pending, this would actually be news. The fact that it is not from a journalist with strong ties to the club, and how it was a sentence included in an already debunked report about Liverpool entering talks with Gremio starlet Luan, shows that this link should be taken with a large grain of salt.
Liverpool fans desperately want such a rumor to be true, and maybe we are negotiating furiously to bring Lemar in. But equally, it’s possible that this is total bullshit.
