We know Juventus are all in for Emre Can, mostly because they won’t stop talking about it, but according to the Daily Mirror they’re not alone. Manchester City, who you may recall were recently defeated by the Reds, have also reportedly expressed their interest in securing the services of the midfielder when his contract runs out at the end of this season.
City, who were presumably incredibly impressed with Can’s performance against them last week, are still in need of young and talented blood in the defensive midfield position, especially with Yaya Toure likely to be released at the end of this season. The club is currently in negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign Fred, the Brazilian midfielder, but should that deal fall through, Can may be next on their list.
According to the Mirror, however, neither Juventus nor Man City hold much appeal for the player. Can is instead far more interested in moving back to his former club, Bayern Munich. The catch here is that Munich are unlikely to sign two midfielders in the summer, and they’ve more or less secured Leon Goretzka’s signature. Still, Can is reportedly unlikely to voice his interest in any club (or even in staying at Liverpool) until it becomes clear that Munich is out of the running to sign him.
So it’s really just a waiting game at this point. And Can seems utterly unperturbed by everything beyond this season.
“My agent is looking after everything but I am here until the summer,” Can said a few days back when asked about the ongoing contract negotiations. “I haven’t signed anything [with Juventus] or anyone. I am talking with everyone. Of course I am talking with Liverpool. Why not? I still have a contract here. It is an amazing club.”
“What can I say? My agent does the rest. I just concentrate on the scene, on my performance and the football. I will give everything for this team.”
