Ben Woodburn Appears Set For Anfield Stay

Leading up to the January transfer window, 18-year-old Liverpool and Welsh starlet Ben Woodburn was linked with a move to struggling Championship side Sunderland. Now, it appears that the move might be off.

According to reports, Jürgen Klopp decided against the loan move, choosing to keep the exciting, but largely unproven talent, on Merseyside in the wake of Philippe Coutinho’s Anfield exit.

Sunderland are currently managed by former Wales coach Chris Coleman, who has previously worked with Woodburn on the Welsh national team. However, the Black Cats are currently dead last in the Championship, so perhaps it isn’t the best situation for a promising young talent to enter, irrespective of Liverpool’s needs in attacking depth.

If true, this might be construed as further evidence that an additional attacking signing to Liverpool might not be forthcoming. Or, perhaps Klopp has seen enough in training to feel confident that the midfielder could prove useful in the important run-in. Or both.
