September was the month we were supposed to move past the disappointing and stressful transfer window and kick on with our season. Instead we’ve gotten back a half-broken unicorn, two losses, two draws, and non-ironic KloppOut hashtags on Twitter.
And because why not kick us while we’re down: Barcelona has apparently turned their interest to our actual best player: Sadio Mane. And because resisting one Spanish giant isn’t hard enough, here come Real Madrid sniffing around.
The latest rumors come courtesy of Spanish outlet Diario Madridista, claiming that Madrid are “constantly monitoring” Mane. I mean, they should because he’s boss, but please don’t come in with a bid next summer. Or ever.
The Senegalese star is under contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2021, so there’s no immediate need to sell. Though, as we saw from Coutinho this summer, a lengthy contract extension without a buy-out clause might be useful in short order.
Mane’s importance to this Liverpool side, especially under Jurgen Klopp, is difficult to overstate. He has already produced many memorable and important goals for the side. And perhaps more notably, Liverpool’s form has dipped every time the winger is unavailable for selection.
