Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has gained a reputation for giving talented, young players a chance to rise through the ranks and breakthrough into the first team. Now, it seems, he’s targeting another talented, young player to join Liverpool, Werder Bremen’s 17-year-old midfielder David Philipp.

And the fact that Philipp is out of contract next summer might just give the Reds an advantage if they choose to pursue him. Spurs also appear to be interested in Philipp.

“I wouldn’t want to rule out the interest in David from the English clubs,” Bremen academy director Bjorn Schierenbeck said of the rumored interest from Liverpool and Tottenham.

“But I don’t know exactly how firm it is. We would be very eager to continue working together with David.

“We have already held talks with him, and explained what his future career with Werder can look like.”

So, on one hand you have a future at a very respectable Bundesliga side like Werder Bremen. On the other, you have Klopp hugs at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Choose wisely.

Last season, Philipp scored 18 goals and assisted on 21 more whilst playing for Werder’s u-17 squad.
