According to Alex Richards at the Mirror, any and all rumours of Liverpool securing Thomas Lemar and his sweet left foot are untrue. It’s unclear where they’re hearing this from, but Mirror Sport seem very confident that the Reds have no representatives Monaco-bound, and that no deal is in the works at this point.
Given the disconnect between what Liverpool were ready to bid on Lemar ( £75 million) versus what Monaco was reportedly asking (£92 million), this may be Liverpool trying to force Monaco to come back to the negotiating table and discuss a more workable solution. The clock on a Lemar move is ticking, however, as any deal would have to go through before France plays the Netherlands on Thursday night in their World Cup qualifier.
There is definitely more confidence surrounding an Ox deal right now, but it remains to be seen if whatever the Mirror is currently hearing is actually true or not. Given they’re the only ones reporting this, however, it’s worth taking with a grain of salt.
