With the arrival of Leicester City in the Mamadou Sakho sweepstakes, Liverpool are increasingly confident of receiving the full £30M they want for the French defender, who will be sold permanently before the close of the transfer window at 11PM BST on Thursday, August 31st.
Along with newly interested Leicester, Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion also remain interested, but favourites remain Crystal Palace—despite a difficult start to the season that sees manager Frank de Boer on the verge of an exit after he and the club’s chairman suffered a falling out.
According to The BBC, though, De Boer’s departure—if it were to take place—wouldn’t change the club’s interest in Sakho or Sakho’s desire to return there after a successful loan spell in the second half of last season. It might even make Palace more desirable for Sakho.
That’s because Sam Allardyce is the early favourite to take back over at the club after successfully navigating them to Premier League survival last season. Regardless of what happens at Palace, though, Liverpool will be confident of getting the full £30M according to The Liverpool Echo.
The inflated market as well as a need by a number of mid-table clubs to reinforce at the back will see to that no matter whether De Boer stays or goes or Allardyce returns or doesn’t. Meanwhile, Liverpool still hope to sign Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk before the Thursday deadline.
