Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Say Coutinho Worth £87million

But also, he’s not for sale.

First of all, Philippe Coutinho is likely not leaving this summer, so everyone calm down. Second of all, this rumour isn’t even Barcelona related. No, it’s about Paris Saint-Germain who, according to The Mirror, approached Liverpool about selling the midfielder.

The French side reportedly approached the Reds about Coutinho and were informed that they’d have to cough up £87 million to succeed in their efforts. Liverpool have staunchly maintained that he’s not for sale, and a price tag that high does suggest that. Of course, given Liverpool’s own pursuit of players that have been considered not-for-sale because of a price tag, that’s not as reassuring as the club completely shutting down all inquiries.

Still, Coutinho himself has given very little indication that he would consider a move away from Anfield right now. The Brazil international just signed a new contract through 2022 earlier this year, and much more importantly, bought new Liverpool kits for all of his mates back home.

“I signed this new contract to stay here for a few more years because it’s a great honour for me,” Coutinho had said back in January. “It gives me great happiness because I was welcomed here with open arms by everyone at the club and the supporters right from my first day. I am very thankful to this football club for everything.”

So there’s probably no need to despair just yet.
