Rumour Mongering: Fiorentina Join Markovic Chase

The Serie A side will allegedly fight Leicester City and Watford for the surplus winger’s signature.

Considering Liverpool’s dearth of strength on the wings for several seasons, it is curious that £20 million man Lazar Markovic didn’t get more of a chance at Anfield. But after being frozen out by Brendan Rodgers, a series of unimpressive loan spells, and not given a serious look by Jürgen Klopp, it’s fair to say that the Serbian’s stay on Merseyside is coming to an end. That he was left out of the 30-man squad for the trip to Germany only confirms this fact.

So far, Watford and Leicester City have been rumored to be interested in the out of favor winger. Although Liverpool are hoping for around £16 million, the assumption has been that they are willing to take a discounted rate to offload the player.

However, Liverpool’s hopes of recouping most of that initial fee have been bolstered by Fiorentina allegedly entering the chase for Markovic. According to goal.com, The Serbian has reportedly flown to Italy to discuss a move with the Serie A side.

This story is a bit of an odd one. Markovic has been linked to Fiorentina in the past, so this very well could be the case of “once linked, always linked.” It’s also strange that the player himself would feel the need to fly to Italy if the deal were not already in the advanced stages. But it is out there, so it’s worth keeping an eye on between rabidly refreshing Twitter for hopes of Naby Keita and/or Virgil van Dijk news.
