Rumour Mongering: Juventus Plot €25M Emre Can Bid

It seems as unlikely as ever to amount to anything, but reports in Italy claim Juventus are preparing a bid.

It's not a transfer saga Liverpool fans have been much paying attention to, given Jürgen Klopp's insistence that Emre Canwouldn't be sold this summer and recent rumours that a new contract isn't far off for the 23-year-old German midfielder. In Italy, though, Can to Juventus has been rumbling along for months.

It's surfaced again this week, with Tuttosport claiming that Juventus are preparing a bid for the player, who they have determined will be the man to take over from Sami Khedira as their midfield talisman. More than that, the Serie A side reportedly believe a cut-rate deal is possible due to Can's contract status.

That seems unlikely given Klopp's earlier stance on Can, and that he reiterated this week that the club expect to sell no key players this summer. Meanwhile, Can is expected to return from his summer break to begin his pre-season training on the weekend, and contract talks between club and player are ongoing.

Still, the papers need to talk about something, and the papers in Italy set a bar for rumour mongering even lower than their English counterparts, so today we get to read about a potential €25M bid for Emre Can that will almost certainly never materialise—and if it does, Liverpool would be expected to reject.
