Good morning, and welcome to today’s edition of The Latest on the Super Important Naby Keita Transfer Saga™. And surprise! There’s not much to report. Liverpool still want Keita. Energy Drink Leipzig do not want to sell.
However, that hasn’t stopped Italian super agent Giovanni Branchini from chiming in on the issue. Branchini (who does not represent the want-away Guinean footballer) was asked about the possibility of Inter Milan swooping in to beat Liverpool to the deal, but firmly denied it.
"I really like him [Keita] he's similar to [N'Golo] Kante but has better technical skills," the agent told Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
"He has a release clause that can be activated from next summer.
"RB Leipzig don’t want to sell him now but if he leaves he will be joining Liverpool.”
So, that’s good, I guess. Obviously this info doesn’t help get the deal over the line, but it looks like at the very least Liverpool will not be forced into a bidding war (other than the one they’re currently engaged in with a stone wall).
At this rate it’s going to be a long summer.
