The summer transfer window has officially opened. Ah, finally journalists and pundits can stop being so tight-lipped and secretive already and start speculating about which players will be going where this summer. It’s like, come on, guys! Enough with being so responsible, we want to know the gossip!

Kidding, kidding.

The latest rumour around Anfield involves defender Alberto Moreno. The left-back was second choice for Klopp all of last season, with the manager opting to play James Milner in that unfamiliar position over the somewhat undisciplined Moreno.

It’s no surprise then that Liverpool are open to fielding offers for the flamboyant left-back, with an eye towards bringing someone new in themselves this summer. It’s said that the club rejected an offer last week from Italian club Napoli, and now fellow Serie A team AS Roma are in the mix.

Liverpool just finished some big business with Roma last month, breaking their transfer record to sign winger Mohamed Salah. Reportedly during those talks, Roma expressed interest in Moreno. Whether this interest will firm up into an actual bid remains to be seen, but it does seem like Roberto Firmino’s groomsman may have played his last game for Liverpool.

Klopp is said to be content with keeping James Milner as left-back while they pursue other options to fill this crucial position for the team. Plenty of players have been linked to the club in this capacity over the past year or so. Basic qualifications for consideration include, but have not been limited to, playing left-back, being available, being a professional football player, or just possessing a left foot. Right now, eyes are on Hull City defender Andy Robertson.

Time will tell how this will play out, but movement in and out for left-back remains one of the most fascinating story lines of Liverpool’s transfer window.
