Rumour Mongering: Reds Eyeing James Rodriguez

Because why not?

Every Liverpool fan needs a good chuckle right now, so here’s one: apparently Liverpool numbers among the many, many clubs voicing interest in Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez. Don Balon, the notoriously unreliable Spanish magazine, threw this one out earlier this week and it’s probably one of the best unsubstantiated rumours yet.

According to whoever Don Balon spoke with, James Rodriguez has been feeling his time on the bench and is looking to move on from Real Madrid in the summer. And Jürgen Klopp is definitely interested and willing to pay £52 million to land him. Of course, because even the silliest rumours don’t let the Reds have nice things, Liverpool would have to go up against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, and it sounds like James is a lot more interested in United and playing with Mourinho than he is in the light side of the Force.

Don Balon does not have a stellar reputation when it comes to transfer rumours (Liverpool Echo labels their success rate as ‘atrocious’ for good reason). Given James’ speed and talent, there’s no doubt that he will be in incredibly high demand if Real Madrid do decide to part with him. However, there’s very little in the way of non-atrocious sources for this one and connecting him to Liverpool feels a bit like transfer window mad libs.

All of that being said, I can highly recommend starting your Friday by spending a few minutes picturing James in the new Liverpool kit. And then going back to sighing over when we’ll hear something positive about Mohamed Salah.
