Rumour Mongering: Mamadou Sakho to Tottenham Hotspur

Because you could use a chuckle.

If you’re a Liverpool fan, the last 24 hours has been a wild ride from exuberance and hope to embarrassment and disappointment as the signing of Virgil van Dijk went from lock to seemingly impossible with a side of potential transfer ban. Fortunately that last bit appears off the table, at least for now.

With that in mind, you could probably do with something to lighten the mood. Something daft and unlikely. Something like a rumour linking out of favour centre half Mamadou Sakho with a move to Tottenham. So. This would be that. A transfer rumour linking Mamadou Sakho with Tottenham.

According to a smattering of online outlets with seemingly no links whatsoever to either player or the clubs, it’s something that could actually happen following a supposed inquiry into the player’s availability and Liverpool’s willingness to sell him to a top four rival in the league.

Further to the point, Liverpool are meant to have responded by pointing to Sakho’s £30M price tag, which further to that point apparently didn’t put Spurs off the idea. Which all means that Sakho could end up at Tottenham in short order. At least if you believe the rumours.

Suffice it to say, we’re not going to put much faith in them, even if Spurs’ third proper centre half by minutes last season was Kevin Wimmer and they often relied on Eric Dier filling in as part of a three-man back line, meaning they likely are in the market for a new third—or at least that they should be.

The idea that that new third centre half could end up being Sakho, though, seems mostly good for a chuckle. Which is about the only reason we’re telling you about it right now.
