With European Nights at Anfield™ set to resume in August, Liverpool will be mostly looking to expand the club, but there are still several players down the pecking order in need of clearing out. One of those players is center and right back Andre Wisdom, who has not made a senior appearance for the Reds since September 2013 when Liverpool drew 2-2 away to Swansea City. A month later he was loaned out for the rest of the season to Derby County, never to return.
In the nearly 4 years since his last appearance for Liverpool, the 24-year-old defender has completed additional loan spells at West Brom (2014/15), Norwich City (2015/16), and Red Bull Salzburg (2017/18).
Somewhat bafflingly, Wisdom will remain on Liverpool’s books until the summer of 2019. Now, it seems that both Derby County and Salzburg are interested in bringing Wisdom back, possibly on a permanent deal.
Clearly Wisdom is nowhere near the first team picture. The likely arrival of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton will only further push the young defender down the depth chart.
With two years left on his contract, it’s as good of a time as any for Liverpool and Wisdom to part ways. And hopefully the multiple suitors will mean a little bit extra in the transfer budget in what is shaping up to be an expensive summer.
