Didi Hamann: Emre Can Has Finally Arrived

Hopefully this is followed by a lot of staying.

While we’re all waiting for Emre Can’s new contract to (please, please, please) come through, former Reds are weighing in on just how good a season Can has had and how he’s finally in a role he’s comfortable in.

"He has developed very well and has finally arrived," Didi Hamann told German tabloid, Bild. "He now plays more offensively in midfield and that's where he belongs. He is not one who naturally defends and is on the defensive.

"Emre has an urge to move forward, he can get away from his opponents and has a good finish."

There have been rumours afloat of other clubs interested in Can, most notably Juventus for a sum of £26 million. Despite the contract negotiations having dragged on for a large part of the season, it still sounds like both Liverpool and Can are relaxed that Can’s future will be in Anfield.

“It is no secret how much I like him,” Klopp had said in May. “He likes the club and we are in talks. There is no pressure.”

Everyone liking each other aside, Can is reportedly looking for a new contract of around £100,000 a week, which is roughly double his current salary. Can’s role in the latter half of the season was undeniably a critical one, and everyone (Hamann and Klopp included) seemed to be impressed.

At the end of the day, Can has made it clear how happy he is at Liverpool. It’ll be good to see him continue to make an impact as the team look for trophies at home and in Europe.
