Earlier today the German publication Bild reported that on-loan Liverpool midfielder Allan Rodrigues de Souza would not be continuing on with Hertha Berlin for a second season. Now, The Echo are refuting that claim, reporting that the two clubs are in negotiations to extend the 20-year-old Brazilian’s loan deal for a second season.
The report goes on to indicate that Berlin is still the most likely place for Allan to spend the next season.
Since signing for Liverpool in the summer of 2017, Allan has faced the arduous task of earning a British work permit to allow him to continue his footballing on Merseyside. So far that journey has taken him to complete loan spells in Finland, Belgium, and now Germany. So far, all that work has been for naught, as he is still well below the limits needed to automatically qualify for a work permit.
Hertha Berlin is as good of a place as any to continue developing and working toward the goal of becoming eligible to work in England. He made 16 appearances for the club last campaign, and will likely have a larger role due to the club’s impending involvement in the Europa League.
