Liverpool Reject Clichy Rumours

They are, however, still interested in bringing in a left back.

As Liverpool fans scour the interwebsphere for any and all transfer news, we can at least scratch one name off the list: Gael Clichy. We reported mere hours ago that Liverpool were interested in bringing in the 31-year-old Manchester City player on a two-year deal.

However, The Echo was quick to dispel that rumor this morning. Considering the special relationship the local paper has with the club, this is about as official of a denial as we are likely to get. The report went on to indicate that while Clichy is not a target for Liverpool, they are still interested in bringing in a left back.

Fulham’s teenage sensation Ryan Sessegnon was previously a top target for the position, but now it appears that Spurs are favorites to land the young star.

Now Liverpool will need to move quickly to secure their target—be it an immediate starter, or one for the future—before too many dominoes fall. But one thing seems clear: of all the left backs linked to Liverpool, we can at least cross Gael Clichy off the list.
