According to reports out of Turkey today, Liverpool are interested in 28-year-old Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjær. Although the Reds have a long standing love of Nordic defenders, Kjær wouldn’t seem to fulfill the needs of the current squad.
Most likely, this seems like an attempt to further drive up interest in the player by the agent (or, equally, just something made up by bored journalists). Allegedly both Milan clubs are in for the Danish international this summer. Kjær has previous experience in Serie A with both Roma and Palermo.
Liverpool have been linked to Kjær in the past, and while 28 is not too old for a central defender, it’s difficult to see us going in for him with the other names floated about recently. But on the other hand, Kloppo does love his bargain bin picks. So.
Kjær featured in 23 Turkish Super Lig matches, as well as all 8 of their Europa League matches. Fenerbahce currently sit third in the league, which would be good enough for another year in Europe’s second-best competition.
