As will come as a shock to absolutely no one, Liverpool kind of need more help on the defensive side of things. Falling out with Mamadou Sakho notwithstanding, Liverpool will very likely target at least one more defender for what should be an exciting campaign on both European and domestic fronts.
According to the latest rumor, that could include Torino defender, currently on loan to Leeds, Pontus Jansson. The 26-year-old Swedish international has racked up nearly 3000 minutes for the Championship side, chipping in with three goals and an assist in 32 appearances. As we know from vice captain James Milner, Leeds IS the best club in English football.
Jansson’s agent, Martin Dahlin, says he would like to play in England’s top flight next year.
"He has set his sights on playing in the Premier League next season, that much I can say,” Dahlin explained, "Interest is high but you will not get me to say specific clubs. But right now he focuses solely on Leeds."
Thanks in part to Jansson’s performance this year, Leeds sits on the cusp of making the promotion playoffs, just behind Fulham on goal differential.
In addition to Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs are both rumored to be in for Jansson. Because reasons. Liverpool’s favorite store, Southampton, have apparently kept tabs on the player over the years. It would be nice, for once, to buy a player without the excessive Southampton mark-up.
