Liverpool, Bournemouth, and Southampton walk into a bar. Wait, that’s not the way this joke goes. Regardless, the punchline is that Liverpool buy Southampton’s beer at three times the price.
Where was I? Oh yes, according to the latest rumors, those three clubs are all interested in bringing 19-year-old Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru into their ranks. Onyekuru currently plies his trade with bottom-dwelling Belgian side Eupen in the Jupiler League. This season, the young striker bagged 15 goals.
Allegedly the three Premier League clubs have sent scouts to watch the player in recent weeks. Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic tried to sign the player for £1 million in January, but were rebuffed, despite Onyekuru trying to force through a deal. Apparently Eupen were holding out for closer to £4, though that demand is now up to £6.8 due to increased interest from around Europe. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Sevilla are also said to be interested.
This likely isn’t the type of transfer to excite the masses, but Jurgen Klopp has found a few diamonds in the rough in the past. Of course, this is all probably bullshit, and this is just the last striker in Europe to not yet be linked with Liverpool.
