Rumour Mongering: James Rodriguez Prefers Bayern Munich

Shortly after being linked to Liverpool and Manchester United, word from Spain has the star favouring Germany.

It’s been a little more than a week since Liverpool were linked with a summer move for James Rodriguez, with reports in Spain claiming the Reds would break the bank and offer €50M up front plus a further €10M in add-ons to get a deal done with Real Madrid.

It’s been just a little more than a week since Liverpool were linked with a summer move for James Rodriguez and already Liverpool seem to have missed out on him. Or so say the rumour mongers who said he could be heading to Liverpool just a few days ago.

In Spain, sports outlet Don Balon was quick and eager in their linking of Rodriguez to Liverpool and Manchester United earlier in the week, but today they claim the player has his heart set not on England but on a move to Germany to join up with Bayern Munich.

It will be a blow to any Liverpool fans who took the reports of him possibly ending up at Anfield especially seriously. Though for those few, there remains a sliver of hope, as the same reports claiming Rodriguez wants Bayern claim Bayern might not be able to afford him.

Bayern may be the biggest club in Germany, but even they don’t have the top line spending power of the Premier League’s richest clubs or the two Spanish giants, and as steep as €50-60M might be to Liverpool, it would be steeper still for the Bundesliga bullies.

All of which means there’s a decent bit of natural tension here that Don Balon and the rest of the tabloids can use keep this story going for at least a few more months until actual details about Rodriguez’ future begin to emerge. It’s the joy of good rumour mongering.
