Rumour Mongering: Weekly Joe Hart Update Edition

Apparently, the out-of-favor Man City ‘keeper can now be had for the low, low price of £20 million.

Last week, we reported that Manchester City would block any attempts of other potential top 4 rivals in England to come in and force a transfer for out-of-favor goalkeeper Joe Hart. Instead, the rumors would have you believe, they were holding out for £15 million for a permanent move away to Serie A club Torino.

Now, at least according to the rumor mongers, City is willing to sell to other English clubs, including possibly Liverpool, for £20 million. Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked to the 29-year-old England international.

Liverpool’s goalkeeping woes over the past 5 or so years are well documented, so it’s not unreasonable to think that the Reds could dip their toes back into the transfer market for another crack at replacing the much maligned Simon Mignolet.

Regardless of whether that is a strategy that Klopp & Co. are seriously considering, £20 million for Hart seems a bit steep. Indeed, given the consistent problem of keeping the ball out of our own net, it is likely that a new goalkeeper wouldn’t really solve the problems of our sieve-like defense. Perhaps that money would be better spent on a fullback/another fullback/a defensive midfielder/a center back.
