One glaring shortcoming of Liverpool over the past several seasons is the one in an equally glaring kit in gloves between the sticks. Whether we’re discussing the last season with Pepe Reina, Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius, or even Brad Jones and Adam Bogdan (OK, especially Jones and Bogdan), Liverpool’s ‘keepers have been a continual source of both dropped balls, and dropped points.
After an incoming Pep Guardiola decided to oust long-time Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart in favor of Cladio Bravo, the rumors mill started spinning with Liverpool as an obvious choice for the out-of-favor English ‘keeper. Despite his loan move to Serie A club Torino, those rumors haven’t subsided, thanks in large part to the continuing failures of both Mignolet and Karius at various points throughout the season.
Now, the Express is reporting that City are trying to secure a permanent move away for Hart, but not to a domestic Top 4 rival. Perhaps they should look across town, then. If true, this would seemingly rule out Liverpool and Chelsea. Chelsea are rumored to be in for Hart because Real Madrid are apparently interested in bringing Thibaut Courtois to the Bernabeu. God damn it, you spelled David de Gea wrong.
It is speculated that City are willing to sell for as low as £15 million, but his wages—£130,000 per week—could be a stumbling block.
