As first reported in The Telegraph and now CONFIRMED on the team site, Liverpool and Southampton have quietly agreed to terms for the transfer of Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool as of January 1st. The fee comes out to a record-breaking £75m for the defender.
That’s a hefty price tag, but there’s always a January premium for players who want to leave mid-season, and Klopp has made it clear that he had his heart set on van Dijk since last spring, and that only he would do. The transfer committee managed to cock it up over the summer, but it appears that they’ve learned from past mistakes and finally got it over the line.
Happy Winter Holiday of Your Choice, Reds!
