According to Sky Sports Crystal Palace have joined Southampton, West Brom, and Swansea in the chase to capture the signature of Mamadou Sakho before the close of deadline day tonight. Apparently Palace are keen to become the West Ham of 2016/17, getting misfit players off our books.
Sakho has been all but frozen out of the first team picture at Liverpool since his falling out with Jürgen Klopp this summer. The center back has not played for the first team since the 4-0 victory over Everton last April, a game in which he scored.
Although a move away will likely be best for all parties involved, the transfer fee and wages are likely to be a point of contention. Liverpool—at least outwardly—seem to be indicating that they want £20 million for the surplus defender. It’s all well and good to recoup your money, and Sakho’s value is likely in that range, but he must also seem like a risky investment for the money considering his complete lack of playing time in nearly a year.
Anyway, one to keep an eye on today, particularly with not much else to be expected today.
