Liverpool have waded into the fray of European clubs trying to sign K.A.S. Eupen’s leading goalscorer, Henry Onyekuru, a source close to the player told Owngoalnigeria. The 19-year-old Nigerian national scored 10 goals in 22 games this season, and would be an excellent addition to a Liverpool side that could use another player with incredible pace.
Onyekuru was a part of the team that helped Eupen win promotion to the Jupiler League last season and his lightning-fast runs and creative handling of opposing defenders have proven essential in keeping Eupen from relegation.
Eupen have, understandably, been reluctant to let him move.
The Belgian club rejected a transfer bid from Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic—and suggested Onyekuru was too good for Scottish football—last week. Onyekuru has made it clear that he wants to move on from Eupen if he receives a good offer, and has expressed his frustration with Eupen’s handling of the Celtic offer.
It’s entirely possible that the Liverpool rumour is being circulated by Onyekuru’s agent trying to secure a more substantial bid from Celtic or Leipzig, but whether or not Liverpool is interested (and whether or not a move to Liverpool ever happens), Onyekuru is proving to be an incredibly interesting player to watch.
