As the January transfer window becomes shorter and shorter, the press become more and more desperate for an attacking player—any attacking player!—to be linked to Liverpool. The latest rumor seems to be another invention made from whole cloth, courtesy of the Italian tabloids, with the Reds supposedly ready to do battle with Juventus and and Inter Milan for the signature of the 22-year-old right winger Domenico Berardi.
Berardi currently plies his trade with Sassuolo, currently in 16th place in Italy top flight. The winger got off to a hot start to the campaign, scoring 7 goals in 8 appearances, spread evenly between the Europa League and Serie A, before spending over 4 months sidelined with knee ligament damage. Berardi has only just returned to action, coming on as a second half substitute last week in a scoreless draw against Torino.
With Berardi only now just coming back from the lengthy injury, it seems highly unlikely that he would move on before the summer transfer window. Additonally, Juventus are rumored to have a £22 million option to buy the young player.
We’ll go ahead and file this one under “unlikely.”
