Liverpool have moved quickly to fill the gap in defence following Joe Gomez’ achilles injury, and with the player having been pictured on Merseyside following his medical, an announcement of Ragnar Klavan’s signing is expected within the next day.
The 30-year-old Bundesliga veteran has spent the past four seasons with FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga, making 140 appearances in that time as a regular starter for the mid-table side. At Liverpool, he is expected to slot in as fourth choice behind Mamadou Sakho, Joël Matip, and Dejan Lovren.

With Sakho also suffering a recent achilles injury, there had been some speculation Liverpool might instead go for a signing to improve the first eleven. It appears, though, that the club don’t expect Sakho to miss a great deal of time and so are turning to a defensive depth signing.
