Liverpool's defense was rocked with the news of injuries to Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho this past week, leading to reports that Jürgen Klopp would be in the market for another center back.
It didn't take long for the German manager to find his target and close in on a deal.
Liverpool are nearing a £4.2 million transfer for FC Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan, according to the Echo, with Klopp reportedly a "big admirer of his talents."
The 30-year-old Estonia captain, who has a top caliber name, is a left center back expected to give the Reds added depth to start the season. With Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel sold, as well as Tiago Ilori on international duty for the beginning of the season, he'll give Klopp an experienced player to slot alongside either Dejan Lovren or Joel Matip as needed.
At such a low fee, this deal seems like a no-brainer for Liverpool to boost the backline without compromising plans to improve in other areas.
