Rumor Mongering: Liverpool Are Not in for Villa's Amavi

New, comments

While reports out of France had Liverpool tabling an £11 million bid for the 22 year old fullback, those reports have been rubbished by journalists with ties to the club.

After L'Equipe and then multiple English publications reported Liverpool were bringing in the promising but injured defender, it appears those reports were based on no more than the usual connect-the-dots logic as today, Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo has placed the Amavi rumors in the dustbin next to those surrounding Jonas Hector.

Jones' words are being reported by sources other than the writer's own twitter or blog on the Echo, but he reportedly stated the Reds "have no interest" in Amavi.

The young player was an exciting prospect, but given that he has been out for the year with a torn ACL, purportedly cost £11 million, and Liverpool's need for a player than can slot right into or challenge Moreno's first team berth, most most fans will not be too upset over this news.

This writer wonders whether the gaffer and front office are returning to the close-mouthed days of the famed boot-room, when Liverpool did their business behind closed doors and most folks found out only after deals were completed. The deal for Grujić is certainly one to cite in favor of this argument, while the drawn out circus with a certain German attacker stands in counterpoint.

Regardless, with the European Championships starting Friday, it might be best for all fans to take a deep breath and enjoy the tournament rather than stress about transfers or the lack thereof. Maybe trade the transfer rumor rollercoaster for one IRL.
