Not a day goes by it seems without Martin Skrtel being linked to another club in Europe. There’s the Turkish trio of Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Galatasaray. There’s Wolfsburg in Germany. There’s the unnamed CSL club that’s supposedly prepared to throw money at him. There’s Roma, who he had supposedly agreed terms with.
And, today, in case all those options and supposedly done or nearly done deals weren’t enough to sort through, there’s also Inter Milan here to join the party. At least according to Skrtel’s agent, Karol Csonto, who has been busy doing the rounds these past few weeks, eager to talk to anyone whose club has been linked with a move for Martin Skrtel.
"Soon we will know something more," Csonto told FCInterNews today when asked about the chances of his client making a move to Inter Milan this summer. "I think in a few days. There are several teams interested, including Inter, which is certainly a distinct possibility. But as I said we will have to wait. Not much longer now, but one has to wait."
Skrtel put in a man of the match performance for Slovakia at the Euros yesterday, helping to shut out England as the teams played to a 0-0 draw that gave Wales the chance to top Group B. His play for the national team so far has been something of a return to form for the player after a club season plagued by a string of injuries and very poor form.
About the only thing that seems clear right now, though, is that Skrtel won’t be playing for Liverpool next season. And that he might end up at Inter Milan or Roma or Wolfsburg or Galatasaray or Besiktas or Fenerbahce or an unnamed club in the Chinese Super League. Or, give it until tomorrow, he could end up somewhere else entirely.
Wherever he does end up, Liverpool fans will owe him nothing but their best wishes following a eight loyal years with the Reds. Hopefully, though, for the sake of everyone’s sanity, where he ends up gets sorted before too many more potential destinations get added to the list.
