Liverpool were briefly and tenuously linked to 26-year-old Mexican international Hector Herrera last week, but the rumor mongers aren't quite done with this one yet. According to the latest report from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport Napoli and Porto are having trouble bridging the gap in valuation, thus leaving the door open for Liverpool.
Napoli have tabled an offer of €18 million (£14.3 million), but Porto are holding firm for a cool €20 million (£15.9 million). Additionally, Napoli have offered Herrera a 5-year, £27,500 per week contract. Given the source of the article and the seemingly advanced talks between Napoli and Herrera, and Napoli and Porto, this seems like more of a negotiation tactic than an actual real thing that could happen.
However, if there is truth to this rumor, £16 million and relatively low wages would be a good deal for a box-to-box midfielder entering his prime, especially with question marks surrounding Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva, and Wee Joe Allen. Still, probably not a thing.
