News broke late last month regarding a new contract for the highly-rated Cameron Brannagan. The 20-year old midfielder impressed in his nine senior appearances this season and looks set to continue his development on Merseyside. According to the Daily Mirror, Brannagan has attracted the interest of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He's been linked with a potential move to Spain in the past as his style, guile, and smile seemed to have impressed certain influential figures at both Spanish clubs. Barcelona have been linked with the Manchester-born midfielder for some time, but Real Madrid's interest is supposedly more recent. The report states that a £5.5 million offer is being prepared to tempt Liverpool to sell.

It's unlikely that Liverpool would sell a youngster they rate, especially one that is set to be offered a new contract by the club. Although Liverpool will strengthen the midfield in the summer, Brannagan is the sort of player who could find a place in the squad over the next couple of seasons. There's no guarantee of opportunities, but Jürgen Klopp is the type of manager who values and promotes young talent.

Interest from such illustrious clubs must be flattering for any young player, but there's a wonderful opportunity for a group of young players to make their mark under Klopp as others did at Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund.
