Liverpool Chasing 18-Year-Old English Forward, Per Report

Will Ademola Lookman be the next addition to a promising crop of young strikers?

After signing young defender Joe Gomez last summer for £3.5 million and seeing him quickly develop into a force at the back, Liverpool have set sights on another prospect from Charlton, according to the Mail.

This time, however, the Reds are eying an attacker. Charlton forward Ademola Lookman, who has had a breakout campaign, is said to be available for £6 million.

With Charlton dropping down to League One next season, it's been reported that Lookman will move on over the summer. But if Liverpool are indeed interested in adding him to its youth ranks, a battle is likely ahead as he's also being tracked by Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton.

Lookman has scored five times in 16 starts this season and was named Football League apprentice of the year last month. He currently is on a contract that runs through 2020.

Given the relative obscurity of Charlton football, it's difficult to gauge to his exact talent level. But signs point to him being a decent prospect, and with the going rate of young players seemingly skyrocketing, a fee in the range of £6 million seems a bit high but not outrageous. This is certainly something to keep an eye on moving forward.
