According wide-spread reports this morning, Liverpool could soon be facing Borussia Dortmund off the pitch as well as on it, as both clubs are allegedly interested in securing the services of 20-year-old Borussia Mönchengladbach central midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud over the summer.
Dahoud, though Syrian by birth, currently plays in the German U21 side. He has been enjoying a breakout season with Borussia Mönchengladbach, with 4 goals and 7 assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances for the club, playing alongside former and future Liverpool target Granit Xhaka.
Borussia Mönchengladbach have insisted they're not selling the youngster, but that hasn't stopped speculation that he could be had for around £25 million.
"Dahoud is not for sale. We are a hungry club and we need every good player," club sporting director Max Eberl recently explained.
Of course, this ticks all the requisite boxes for Liverpool rumor mongering. He's young. He's had a breakout year. And (new requirement) he's playing in Germany. I can't say how likely this particular rumor will come to fruition, but enjoy your highlight video all the same:
