French Reports Link Alexandre Lacazette with Liverpool Move

Rumour mongers in France believe that after failing to land Alexandre Lacazette the last two summers, Liverpool are favourites to beat Everton and West Ham to him this time around.

When it comes to transfer rumours, a player being solidly linked with a move once tends to ensure they’ll be linked again and again and again. At least until they get a move, typically to some other club, and sometimes not even that is enough to stop the rumour mongers.

Liverpool fans well know how it goes thanks to the likes of Arda Turan, Xherdan Shaqiri, and any number of Barcelona fringe players. Over the last two years, they’ve also grown familiar with being linked to Lyon striker Alexanre Lacazette, and it looks like summer number three will be no different.

According to the rumour mongers in France—and at Le 10 Sport in particular—Liverpool are lining up a move for Lacazette once again. And this time around, as the biggest club actively seeking out his services and with Lyon perhaps more willing to sell, they stand a good chance of landing him.

Or so the story goes. In past summers, Liverpool have been rumoured to be in competition with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City. Another sticking point has been that Lyon had reportedly been looking for well in excess of £30M in order for them to even consider selling their 24-year-old striker star.

A slight dip in production from Lacazette this season—he’s scored 18 goals in 39 appearances so far compared to 31 in 40 last year—has the likes of Arsenal and City moving on to newer, shinier targets. At least according to the rumour mongers. It also led to Lyon accepting a £22M January bid from Newcastle.

Lacazette blocked that move, not wanting to make the switch to English football by joining a side facing a relegation battle. However, it did set his price such that a club like Liverpool could easily afford it, and according to Le 10 Sport their competition this time around is Everton and West Ham.

If it all sounds quite thoroughly speculative and as though there’s nothing solid suggesting interest from the Liverpool end, that’s because it is and there isn’t. Still, Lacazette is still only 24 years old, and even if his numbers are down this season, he remains a striker who seems a good fit for Liverpool.

If he’s available for between £20-25M this summer, Liverpool could do an awful lot worse than trying to bring the forward to Anfield, especially if they can find a new home for Christian Benteke.
