In a recent interview with Eurosport, FC Köln and German international left-back Jonas Hector hinted that a phone call from Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp could be enough to persuade him to come to Merseyside.
The 25-year-old can also deputize at the defensive midfield position, and at 185 cm (6'1"), he is taller than either of our current crop of fullbacks. Since 2012, he has scored 4 goals in 116 appearances for Köln, and has made 10 appearances for Die Mannschaft. Hector will likely be the starting left-back for Germany in tonight's friendly against England.
"You always have to consider whether you are ready to take the next step," Hector said about a possible move to Liverpool, "But at the moment I am not thinking about it. I think what we have to do at FC Koln is enough. I also have with the national team a big tournament ahead of us."
But if Kloppo called him up (or possibly just texted with a few well-placed emojis)?
"Then I would start to think about it."
So he is not thinking about it even if he has to think about it and nothing can change his not thinking about it except a call from Jürgen Klopp. OK.
This is one rumor that will surely please both the #andafullback and #buyallthegermans crowds. And at an estimated £12 million transfer fee, it's not a move that would break the bank for Liverpool. Additionally, the move would provide much-needed depth in areas of need.
